Windows Vista Information

The TV Stick uses standard BDA drivers which are supported under Microsoft Windows Vista. The TV Stick is supported under Windows Vista using Windows Vista Media Center or TotalMedia.

Windows Vista Media Center is included in Vista 'Home Premium' & 'Ultimate' editions. 'Home Basic' and 'Business' editions of Vista do not include Windows Vista Media Center. The latest Version of TotalMedia is now supported on all version of Vista.

Please note that the Remote Control that is bundled with the windows TV Sticks is for use with TotalMedia only, and will not control Vista (or XP) Media Center. We now stock the official Microsoft Media Center Remote Control that will control all aspects of Vista (or XP) Media Center.

General Help (The Original TV Stick):

To help you resolve any issues, here are a few basic points to check.

  1. Firstly, please confirm that the TV Stick is plugged into a USB 2.x port not USB 1.x (USB1.x is not supported.). The TV Stick will appear to work in a USB 1.x port, but USB 1.x does not have the throughput required for the TV Stick to transfer the audio and video data stream into the PC. Symptoms of this are that you can Scan for channels but none will be received.

  2. Does the TV stick install correctly?

New devices should be seen in Device Manager (to get to Device Manager right click on My Computer and select 'Properties', then select the 'Hardware' tab and click 'Device Manager'). Depending on the TV Stick, you should see a number of new devices. Check that the drivers are installed correctly and that there is no yellow '!' net to any of the new devices.

Please check this carefully as most installation issues are down to incorrect device drivers.

  3. If the TV Stick is installed correctly you should be able to Scan for channels using teh TotalMedia Application. If you can scan for channels, then the application has successfully identified and opened the TV Stick drivers, and everything should be working. If you get the message 'TV Card Not Found' then the driver installation is incomplete or incorrect.

  4. If all of the above works and you are still getting poor or no signal reception, it is probably a signal strength and/or signal quality issue. The included antenna is only really suitable for strong signal areas, in most cases you will need an external rooftop or set top aerial.

If you have tried a larger aerial and are still getting poor or no signal reception, it may be that either Freeview reception is just not good enough in your area or you have a faulty TV Stick.

If you suspect the TV Stick may be faulty, you can of course return it to us and we'll test it. Obviously if it is faulty, we will replace it. Please contact techsupport@tvstick.co.uk.
